Yay, you want to start living a healthy lifestyle!
There’s always something exciting about starting something new… New year, new you, right? 😉
If you want to start living a healthy lifestyle, you need to be ready for a long-lasting commitment. Starting something new is good, being able to make it last is better!
You know what I’m talking about, we’ve all been there. You woke up one day, feeling full of good intentions and made big plans about how you were going to change your life from next Monday.
And… That didn’t work.
“Oops! Maybe we’ll try again next monday.”
Changing your lifestyle is just not something that you can do overnight. Creating new habits takes time and efforts.
Did you know that it takes on average more than two months for a new behaviour to become automatic?
Of course, smaller tasks might become automatic after just three weeks, while big / complicated stuff might take three months or even more than that.
My point is, you’re going to have to make efforts for maybe several months before your new lifestyle becomes a natural thing for you. Meaning you’re going to have to be motivated and have a good reason to change your lifestyle.
And no, wanting to have a pretty Instagram feed is not a good enough reason. 😉
How To Start Living A Healthy Lifestyle
Find what motivates you
First thing first, as I said sooner in this post, if you want to start a healthy lifestyle you’re going to have to be motivated. One thing that I love to do to keep myself motivated, is to make a vision board full of quotes and pictures that motivate me.
I like the vision board idea because it’s visual. You can also make a list of the things that motivate you, and stick it somewhere you will see it often. I have mine right above my coffee machine, that way I know that it’s the first thing I’ll see in the morning!
Either way, find a real motivation, something you know will keep you going for a long time. Motivation is everything when it comes to changing your lifestyle!
Pick realistic eating and exercising plans. If you’re used to eat junk food / overly rich food on a daily basis or in big quantities and never exercising at all, then don’t plan to be eating only a tomato per meal and doing 2hours of exercise per day. This is just never going to work (it’s not healthy either), and you’re going to give up quickly.
You need to take baby steps if you want a long-lasting change. Kinda like when learning how to walk in high heels. I know, going fast is tempting, but the slower you go, the more likely you will be to maintain this change for a very, very long time.
So to start living a healthy lifestyle, take baby steps, and don’t make any drastic change. Patience is what you need!
Have fun eating
Eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring!
You can’t eat healthy for a long time if you do not really like what you’re eating. Browse the internet to find some healthy recipes that will make you think “OMG THIS LOOKS SO GOOD I HAVE TO TRY THAT”. Don’t settle of less, or you will get tired of eating healthy pretty quickly!
Find the right activity
There must be an activity that you will like, even if you don’t know it yet. For me, it’s yoga and walking; I never get tired of long walks with my headphones on, especially when I can bring my little doggy with me!
Whether it is yoga, fitness, running, dancing or boxing, there IS something out there that corresponds to you. You just have to find it!
Do It With Friends
Everything is always better with friends!
If you have some friends that might be interested in doing whatever activity you chose with you, then invite them to join you! Doing an activity with friends can be a great way to motivate each other… And have fun!
They could even join you in your whole healthy transformation journey, who knows?
You can’t be the best version of yourself if you lack of sleep.
Having a good night sleep is what’s gonna allow you to wake up feeling good and motivated to start a new healthy day. So go to bed early, and get up early!
Try to get at least 7hours of sleep, your mind and body will thank you!
Take Care Of Your Environment
The environment you live in influences you BIG TIME. So clean your house, and make sure to create a space you feel good in.
This is SO important, as we often react in mirror to the environment we live in. Decluttering your home will declutter your mind, and having an environment you feel good in, will make you more likely to take care of yourself.
Living a healthy lifestyle doesn’t mean you can’t eat a piece of cake from time to time. A healthy living is a balanced living, so if you’re craving fries, allow yourself to make a few fries to accompany your salad from time to time.
Remember; Baby steps!
Start Right Now
Don’t start on Monday, don’t start for the new year, don’t start tomorrow, start now. As soon as you’ve finished reading this post, put on some motivating music, start cleaning your home, find recipes you’ll love and go the grocery store. Just start.
Waiting is just a way to delay, and that’s not gonna help you accomplish your goals!
